That First Year

My first year attending Stetson University was a very interesting one. The feelings of leaving home for the first time and being over 18 hours away. And being on your own. It was something that was hard to get used to. Watching my parents drive away and leave me was the hardest thing to watch.. When you think of a first year of college the typical party scene pops into your head? Right? Well for me it wasn't anything like that. I barely went out and I focused on school. I joined the shooting team but that didn't last long because it interfered with school. Dorm life just wasn't for me. The whole sharing rooms (my roommates were amazing though) and sharing bathroom thing just wasn't for me. I lasted all of first semester. But second semester things changed. I got really sick with bronchitis and the flu... I stayed at my grandparents house (luckily they live a half hour from campus) and while I was there it made me realize I didn't wanna go back to dorm life.. I packed up my things and moved in with them. It was the best decision I ever made. It made me feel more comfortable and made me actually appreciate being at school. I was no longer miserable and I pushed through. Have you ever experienced living in an unfamiliar place? That's how campus felt.. Thank god my first year is done and over with and I'm moving forward.
